Last week my lovely husband's lovely grandmother had a birthday. She lives at the front of the farm, so made her some cookies and Myles delivered them on her birthday.
These cookies are black and whites. I love them. They are my favorite kind of cookie. I hope Ma loved them as well. These cookies are not overly sweet and they are very cake-like. Here is the recipe:
BLACK AND WHITES
cookies
2 cups cake flour
3 cups AP flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 sticks butter (at room temperature)
1 3/4 cup sugar
4 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
icing
1/3 cup boiling water
4 cups confectioners sugar
1 oz bittersweet chocolate melted
directions
stir together flour and baking powder.
in mixer cream together butter and sugar
beat in eggs to butter and sugar, then add milk and vanilla
finally add flour mixture
for drop tablespoon to small ice cream scoop size onto pan sprayed with cooking spray (depending on how big you want your cookies- I like mine bigger, but for Ma I made smaller ones)
bake at 375 for about 20 minutes or until they just begin to brown. Cool completely befor icing
To make icing stir water and confectioner sugar together, you may need a touch more water if it is too thick. Split the icing in half and add the melted chocolate to one half.
Ice the cookies half chocolate, half white and allow icing to dry.
ENJOY
